【文思不藏私】所謂的成功

這陣子,很多面試的過程中,我總是好奇問面試者幾個問題?

  • 你如何定義「你個人的成功」?
  • 你如何定義「一個公司或組織的成功」?
  • 以終為始:你會如何排序下列四件事最終的價值呢?老闆的決定、最後成功了。老闆的決定、最後失敗了。你的決定、最後成功了。你的決定、最後失敗了。

這三個問題看似很簡單,但從中我可以觀察到這個人的價值觀、對成功的觀點。有人回答「獲利」,有人回答「上市」,有人回答「產品市佔第一」,但我不覺得這是成功的目標!「獲利」、「上市」與「產品市佔第一」只是手段,不該是一個目標。難道「公司獲利」、「公司上市」或「產品市佔第一」後,我們就可以停止了嗎?

我個人認為「真正成功的目標」是一個「持續精進」的過程,置入行銷一下。KKTV 的核心價值是 #POWER(包含了五個核心價值 #Passion, #Ownership, #WinWin, #Excellent, #Respect),其中 #Excellent 就是持續精進,舉例來說,KKTV 相信「如果世界上有更多人願意分享及了解日本文化,世界會更美好」,因此「公司獲利」、「公司上市」或「產品市佔第一」只是我們達成這個「目標」的手段之一,不會是一個成功的指標。

今天不是要來長篇大論「成功」,而是今天最火熱的新聞是「OpenAi 執行長 Sam Altman 被董事會撤換」,回想到 OpenAi 執行長之前寫的一篇「How to be Successful」很有感,順手做了一些整理如下,也能時時提醒自己。

先說結論,我個人定義的成功是「清楚知道自己想要的是什麼?以終為始,一步步地邁向自己目標的過程」,舉例來說,世界上有很多高山,我的目標並不是要爬世界第一高峰喜馬拉雅山,而是我知道我想要的是「帶更多人一起爬台灣第一高峰玉山」,我明確知道我的目標,一步一步往這個目標前進,雖然終其一生,我也不一定能到達「玉山主峰」,但我很明確知道我正在邁往成功的路上。也許有一天我終於到了「玉山主峰」,並不是這樣結束了,而是我願意帶更多人一起到「玉山主峰」,因為『一群人的參與』才是這件事熱情的本質。

關於達到成功的 13 個想法

1. 自身複利增長(Compound yourself)

人生追求的應該是「複利增長」。複利增長最值得注意的一個觀點是時間越久效果越好,世界上卻很少人願意這樣想,但市場最終會給具備長遠眼光的人相對的報酬。(One of the notable aspects of compound growth is that the furthest out years are the most important. In a world where almost no one takes a truly long-term view, the market richly rewards those who do.)請相信「指數曲線」,更有耐心的等待機會。

2. 具備絕對自信(Have almost too much self-belief)

隨著你獲得更多數據與觀點的佐證,你會更清楚你的判斷是正確的,而且能持續的交付成果,你也會更加相信自己。(As you get more data points that your judgment is good and you can consistently deliver results, trust yourself more.)

3. 獨立思考能力(Learn to think independently)

最值得有效學習是當你覺得你找不到解決方案下找到你可以做些什麼。當你嘗試越多次後,你就會越相信它。恆毅力來自於你每次被擊倒後又可以重新站起來。(One of the most powerful lessons to learn is that you can figure out what to do in situations that seem to have no solution. The more times you do this, the more you will believe it. Grit comes from learning you can get back up after you get knocked down.)

4. 具備銷售能力(Get good at “sales”)

擁有自信是不夠的,你還需要具備說服他人的能力。(Self-belief alone is not sufficient — you also have to be able to convince other people of what you believe.)

擅長銷售最好的方法是真誠地相信你所銷售的東西,唯有銷售你真心覺得很棒的東西,才能讓顧客買單。(The best way to be good at sales is to genuinely believe in what you’re selling. Selling what you truly believe in feels great, and trying to sell snake oil feels awful.)

5. 勇於冒險挑戰(Make it easy to take risks)

大多數人常常高估風險,卻低估了回報。承擔風險很重要,因為不可能一直都是做出正確的決定,你必須嘗試很多事情後,才伴隨著學習做出快速調整。(Most people overestimate risk and underestimate reward. Taking risks is important because it’s impossible to be right all the time — you have to try many things and adapt quickly as you learn more.)

6. 保持專注聚焦(Focus)

一旦你清楚你想要什麼後,就不要猶豫,就該快速的行動把優先事項先完成。(Once you have figured out what to do, be unstoppable about getting your small handful of priorities accomplished quickly.)

7. 努力投入工作(Work hard)

生活中最大的樂趣之一就是找到你的目標,並在其中表現出色,並發現你在這件事情上的影響力比你自己本身更重要。(One of the great joys in life is finding your purpose, excelling at it, and discovering that your impact matters to something larger than yourself.)

8. 勇於接受挑戰(Be bold)

跟隨你的好奇心吧!這些對你來說感到興奮的事情通常也會讓其他人感到興奮。(Follow your curiosity. Things that seem exciting to you will often seem exciting to other people too.)

9. 具備意志堅定(Be willful)

通常那些說「我將永不放棄,直到夢想成真,無論面臨什麼挑戰,我都會找到解決方案」的人,因為堅持夠久,幸運總會來到,最終總會成功。 (Almost always, the people who say “I am going to keep going until this works, and no matter what the challenges are I’m going to figure them out”, and mean it, go on to succeed. They are persistent long enough to give themselves a chance for luck to go their way.)

10. 建立長遠護城河(Be hard to compete with)

增加競爭力的最好方法是建立影響力。例如,您可以透過人際關係、建立強大的個人品牌或擅長多個不同領域的斜槓專長( 𝝿 型人)來做到這一點。(The best way to become difficult to compete with is to build up leverage. For example, you can do it with personal relationships, by building a strong personal brand, or by getting good at the intersection of multiple different fields.)

11. 建立人際網路(Build a network)

建立人際網路的最佳方法之一就是幫助與你一起工作的人。大方與他人分享資源,相對的你會得到 10 倍以上的回報。(One of the best ways to build a network is to develop a reputation for really taking care of the people who work with you. Be overly generous with sharing the upside; it will come back to you 10x.)

12. 具備創造價值(You get rich by owning things)

創造增加價值的最佳方法是大量製造人們想要的東西(需求)。(The best way to make things that increase rapidly in value is by making things people want at scale.)

13. 找到內在驅動力(Be internally driven)

成功的人主要靠內在驅動力的驅動。他們做事是為了給自己心悅誠服,因為他們想要改變世界。(The most successful people I know are primarily internally driven; they do what they do to impress themselves and because they feel compelled to make something happen in the world.)
